SOCIETY FOR TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGY
(INDSTT) is the Apex organization to promote the application of Trenchless
Engineering in India and other South Asian Nations. It has been working for this
promotional work since the last twelve years.
In this
short time span, India has progressed very well in the adoption of Trenchless
Technology and has now enthusiastically stepped in the new millennium with all
around adoption of NO-Dig methods spread around the nation. INDSTT has been making relentless efforts in
popularizing the technology in India.
Such
popularization has been possible due to the services rendered by IndSTT to the
Trenchless Stakeholders. It would not be out of place to indicate here that the
efforts have started bearing fruits and there has been a sizeable change in the total
scenario of underground utility installation in the country. Engineers and
Decision-makers are now well aware of this technology as a practical alternative
to open trench method and are convincingly inclined to adopt this Technology to
its optimal level.
Till the
recent past, adoption of Trenchless Technology was a chicken and egg syndrome in
the sense that decision makers would not go in for the Trenchless techniques
because, they were unsure of the effective technology transfer. On the other
hand, foreign companies having the requisite technology expertise would not take
the risk of entering this unknown market. Bringing together the user departments
(clients), contractors as well as equipment manufacturers is not a mean task.
But India, through the INDSTT and many other supportive organizations, has
achieved a tremendous success in this front. User departments, today, are
showing their absolute preference for the Trenchless technology. Foreign
manufacturers of Trenchless equipments have started to appreciate market
potential of their equipment in India and are quite eager to invest in the
development of the sector now.
Similarly the
educational institutions have now started working closely with IndSTT to build
capacity in this sector. Some of the notable achievements of IndSTT includes
Establishment of National Habitat Centre on Subsurface Construction and
Trenchless Technology at Vidisha, MP under a program of All India Council for
Technical Education Education (AICTE).
Since
inception IndSTT has taken several programmes for creating awareness amongst potential user departments and for
adoption of Trenchless technology in India. These include :

Trenchless Workshops, Seminars, Lectures, Presentations, Live Demonstrations.

Coverage.

Publication of Quarterly Journal, No-Dig India for the stakeholder
sensitization.

Involvement various Government Ministries for TT promotion.

Involvement of users departments for acceptance of TT.

Formulation of various TT Guidelines.

Involvement of Manufactures of Equipments & Contractors in such
promotional activities.
